Sam Hawcroft
Managing Director - Hawk Editorial
Sam was born in Beverley and immediately shipped straight back to Hull, where she attended Sydney Smith School, Wyke College and the University of Hull.
While finishing off her MA in English and film studies in 2000, she spotted a Hull Daily Mail ad for trainee sub-editors at… the Hull Daily Mail, later becoming a senior sub-editor. She held various roles at the Press Association in Howden, from Teletext editor to TV listings manager, before, in 2008, she began editing the world’s oldest naturist magazine, H&E (which people of a certain vintage may remember as Health & Efficiency). Yes, that’s naked people, not birds and bees.
She took over the magazine in 2012 and continues to publish it under her own company, Hawk Editorial, which also offers a range of editorial services including cover-to-cover, print-ready book production - copyediting, proofreading, typesetting and cover design.
Sam is also the lead writer/editor for BusinessWorks magazine and the Hull City/gardening columnist for The Hull Story, depending on what time of year it is. In her spare time you might find her singing and playing folk music as her alter-ego, Sam Martyn.
