Richard is a focused chartered safety and health practitioner working for a range of organisations of differing sizes, with the aim of keeping people safe at work and go home safely. After changing career from printing in 1998 he gained HS&E experience in industry for several years initially with Hanson White Print and moving onto Mouchel Consulting, Rank Hovis and with The University of Hull Health and Safety Services team during this time studying for his degree in health safety and environmental management at the University Hull. After achieving a first class honours degree he began his Entrepreneur journey developing a successful health and safety partnership which grew into a larger consultancy with three safety professional Director colleagues working for recognised names such as BAE systems, Veolia environmental services, The Deep, The Metropolitan Police, E3 Learning as some of the well-known clients.

After acquisition of the consultancy in 2010 he worked in senior management for Arco consultancy and training, before setting up a new consultancy business with the Sewell Group and going on to be risk management director of the group.

More recently he has started a new business working as external competent person for health and safety with clients such as The Deep, Saville AV Group, Find Charity, PDS Hull, Hodgson Sealants in addition to undertaking consultancy work for a range of companies including Leeds City College, IBKA UK, Petrotech services. Richard Continues to diversify the business creating online e- learning modules covering health and safety subjects, lecturing at the University of Hull in health and safety management and continuing as an accredited SSIP scheme assessor for CHAS – Contractors Health and Safety Assessment scheme which is a nationally recognised contractor accreditation scheme.

In addition to the roles above he has undertaken a range of external support for organisations such as young enterprise in the ‘companies project’ as one of the business advisors. Richard became an FEO member several years ago when working at the Sewell Group and having the opportunity to learn from other FEO members such as Paul Sewell, Anthony Eltherington, David Kilburn amongst many others.
