Martin Shaw

I live in Beverley and I love rugby, played for Beverley RUFC for many years and now coach a youth junior team there which I love doing.

I originally trained in law at University in Manchester but fell into recruitment after a chance meeting with a friend.

I have over 20 years of extensive experience in the recruitment industry. I previously established and managed a company called MYNT Recruitment. This was a successful firm with 3 branches that specialized in temporary recruitment for the manufacturing, engineering and logistics sectors. At our height we employed 18 members of staff and they were a great team. After many years of expansion, some achievements (and some mistakes), the firm hit the £6million turnover mark and was very profitable. I successfully sold and exited MYNT Recruitment in August 2022.

After a brief hiatus, I realised I wanted to go again and recognised an opportunity to address the growing demand for a recruitment company focusing on recruiting management and engineering professionals within the Yorkshire area.

So I set up Sherpa Selection in May 2023 with a focus on fostering long-term relationships with businesses and exceptional professionals. I have always prided myself on given an honest and reliable service to my customers and this has led to partnerships over many years. Having a reputation for integrity is very important to me.

At Sherpa, I have implemented competency-based interviews and invested in video interviewing software with an ATS function. This is an exciting (to me anyway) addition to my business as it reduces my client’s time to hire period as they can watch my interviews with potential candidates.
