John Hindley

John is Managing Director of Metron Limited, a Land survey specialist offering a range of geomatic services to the property, construction and engineering sectors. The Company operates around the whole of the UK and mainland Europe.

Following graduation from Newcastle University with a degree in Surveying and Mapping Science, John began work for one of Europe’s leading Geomatics companies within their Urban Regeneration and Infrastructure team, working on projects including Cross Rail, Southampton Tunnel W10 gauging and Leavesden Studios (Warner Bros Studios) redevelopment. He was also part of a small team that provided spatial data to the Police and Security sector assisting with eyewitness line of sight, bullet trajectory and bomb crater analysis.

During the financial crisis John represented over 60 surveyors through two rounds of redundancies, consulting with the board of Directors about the future of the company and the help available to employees at risk.

Metron was set up after taking voluntary redundancy in 2010. Being an entrepreneur is a rollercoaster, but John says that running a business with a team spread out around the country presents additional challenges, pushing people forward and motivating stakeholders from afar, week to week.

In general, he believes that no matter what type of business we are in, the basic challenges apply to us all and sharing experiences, successes and failures can help to grow and achieve goals.
