Every time I see young people opening their minds, with an entrepreneurial spark to a world of business I didn’t encounter until I was 38, my passion only grows stronger.
Last week, I delivered a pilot version of the FEO NxGen Business Masterclass to an incredible group of Year 5 pupils from St James Primary School Hull. Hosted at Run With It charity’s fantastic premises inside the MKM Stadium, we challenged the children to create and pitch their own business ideas - all within an intense 90 minutes.
The fast-paced workshop pushed everyone outside their comfort zones, but they embraced it with remarkable energy. With support from the brilliant Run With It team, the pupils explored teamwork, problem-solving, customer understanding and business roles before unveiling their creative pitches. Their confidence, creativity and enthusiasm were fantastic to see.
A winning team was crowned and proudly donned FEO rosettes to celebrate. Two pupils earned special FEO certificates for exceptional contributions, while every child received an FEO money box. I encouraged them: “Whenever you put money into your piggy banks, think about how you could make that money blossom by becoming future entrepreneurs.”
Every time I see young people opening their minds with an entrepreneurial spark to a world of business I didn’t encounter until I was 38, my passion only grows stronger. This pilot underscores the power of hands-on enterprise education - sparking business thinking at primary level to cultivate Hull's next generation of innovators early.
A huge thank you to St James Primary School Hull and the Run With It team. If this is a taste of what's coming, local entrepreneurship is in safe hands!
