Supporting and Enabling Business Success in Hull and East Yorkshire

Peter Aarosin has led For Entrepreneurs Only (FEO) for three years, guiding this vibrant community of local business leaders through a rapidly changing economic landscape. Born and raised in Denmark, Peter brings a perspective shaped by equality and inclusive business leadership.

When asked why FEO is important to the region, Peter emphasises the collective strength of its members. “We employ 27,000 people and generate a turnover of £7 billion. That gives us serious influence and insight into the diverse businesses that drive Hull and East Yorkshire.”

FEO supports every stage of business development - from the NXGen programme introducing young people to entrepreneurship, to Ignition, a series of practical workshops for Start Ups which Peter highlights as a personal favourite: “We see incredible success stories from Ignition. At first, some ideas seem unlikely to work, only to find that two years on, many have grown to employ 20 or more staff.”

Leadership Philosophy

A key leadership philosophy and FEO programme Peter champions is “Unleashing the Entrepreneur Within,” encouraging business owners to delegate and trust their teams. “Entrepreneurs often think they’re the only ones who can manage growth. But a true director directs - and when you learn to let go, you’re winning.”

Peter is a seasoned entrepreneur and director of Danbrit Holdings, a diverse group operating across shipping, ports, logistics, and renewables sectors in the UK and Denmark. With over 35 years’ experience, he has been instrumental in growing businesses throughout the Humber region and beyond, leveraging deep expertise in cross-border trade. Based in East Yorkshire, he is recognised for his strategic leadership and commitment to regional development.

Unpredictable Economic Climate

Reflecting on the unpredictable climate when he became Chair, especially post-pandemic, Peter says, “Danbrit’s network spread across the region was a strength. Forced to work from home, I turned my walks into virtual Route 66 trips, listening to audiobooks and making my office in the outdoors. By working remotely, I empowered my team to make decisions confidently - and they mostly made better ones than I would have.”

“This ethic is the beating heart of FEO; letting go to grow, with programmes like Step Change and End Games helping guide key decisions. Delegating to an empowered team is key to entrepreneurial freedom and retaining talented people who may be better suited to certain roles.”

Peter acknowledges current economic challenges, voicing concerns about government policies, particularly National Insurance hikes. “Business success is a collective effort, but rising taxes have become a heavy burden, stifling growth. With GDP near zero while other European countries grow at 2-3%, it’s worrying. Many businesses feel penalised for their success.”

Peter Remains Optimistic

Despite obstacles, Peter remains optimistic about FEO. “Our members are selfless and supportive. FEO is unique - offering a confidential space to share real business problems without fear. Just call the FEO team and you’ll be signposted straight away to someone who’s walked in your shoes. Peer advice often saves costly mistakes.”

You’re Never Alone with FEO

“As a member, you’re never alone - whether in success or struggle. Members become a network of friends, regardless of business size. We help business owners feel capable and in control of their destiny.”

Peter’s passion for volunteering shines through. “I became Chair because I believe in giving back without financial reward. The FEO Director’s breakfasts are diverse and meaningful events that we continue because they work. Entrepreneurs share experiences, good and bad, knowing confidentiality is absolute.”

Confident in FEO

Looking ahead, Peter stands confident in FEO’s approach. “We are also offering entrepreneurs time out of their business, to learn and develop personally with a range of guest speaker lunches which always surprise me - you never know what inspiring story you’re going to get, which keeps things fresh and inspiring.”

Under Peter’s leadership, For Entrepreneurs Only continues as a cornerstone of Private Sector business support in Hull and East Yorkshire - enhancing growth, community, and resilience for entrepreneurs of all kinds.

Thanking Key Partners, Peter says, “Key Partners validate and strengthen everything we offer, benefiting the whole community. By supporting FEO, they help more entrepreneurs start, adapt and grow businesses, ultimately employing local people and helping Hull and East Yorkshire flourish.”
