On behalf of For Entrepreneurs Only—a Community Interest Company representing over 200 local business leaders employing 27,000 people locally—we are compelled to express our growing concern that the voice of enterprise is being increasingly sidelined in Westminster.
We strongly believe that it is business, not bureaucracy, that drives growth, fosters innovation and pays the wages that power the local economy. Yet the actions of the Government suggest otherwise.
The rhetoric of “supporting working people” has become a political chorus—but what is often forgotten is that entrepreneurs, business founders, and employers create the very jobs that our Country relies on. Yet recent fiscal decisions tell a different story. From the steep rise in per-employee costs and stifling tax burdens to inflationary and regulatory pressures that stifle growth rather than nurture it, it’s very clear that business has fallen off the priority list.
Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire are home to thousands of businesses with world class vision, tenacity and economic potential – but recent budgets have dampened confidence and in some cases, put operational viability into question due to unmanageable overheads.
We cannot continue to invest, expand, or create opportunities if policy keeps placing obstacles in our way. We need MPs who champion productivity, not just redistribution. We need voices in Parliament who understand that prosperity begins with those who build—the entrepreneurs and business owners who fuel growth and keep Britain competitive.
Britain will only be great again when business is given the environment to thrive. That takes bold policy making, a commitment to low taxation, and recognition that "working people" includes the people who build businesses from nothing, shoulder risk, and contribute immensely to public wealth.
Support for business isn’t a luxury. It’s the foundation for any serious economic plan.
Rebuilding Britain’s reputation starts with empowering those who build.
We ask that you urgently reassess the direction of economic policy and re-engage with the entrepreneurs who drive this region forward. Britain cannot afford to forget its business builders.
Yours sincerely,
For Entrepreneurs Only (FEO)
