I’ve been asked to provide a biopic for the FEO website, here goes … balancing education with practice, balancing work and life, balancing profit with a commitment to supporting the third sector and making decisions that create context for years to come would be the long answer, the short one…enjoying my passion for architecture.
Bridget Hansford and I developed the LAND studio at the Hull School of Architecture in the 90’s, resigned as an objection to the School’s move to Lincoln, set up SALT Architects, continued teaching at Leeds before re-establishing a School of Architecture in Hull before resigning again to concentrate on SALT.
Now established and working throughout the North of England for a client base which includes the National Trust, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, the RSPB and more recently the Yorkshire Arboretum at Castle Howard.
Our roots grew strong helping the many organisations in the third sector unlock their ambition resulting in the award for Business of the year in 2007 and more importantly the joy that helping others brought. The Practice is still evolving. It’s once again time to step back a little and watch the young and developing staff take the batten, assisting only when needed. The passion is still strong, and so is the wish to build capacity by helping others embrace opportunity to do what they enjoy.
