Mayo Binnie

Co-Founder - Canopy Drones

Mayo Binnie is the co-founder of Canopy Drones and several hospitality businesses across Hull and East Yorkshire. Mayo’s first business was an earthmoving company in regional Australia, completing contracts for companies like BP and Halliburton. During this time Mayo also trained as a commercial helicopter pilot, where he fell in love with flying and a Hull girl, which is how he found himself in East Yorkshire.

In the UK, Mayo set-up mobile catering units, which operated at large festivals, e.g. Radio One’s Big Weekend and Leeds Festival. The next step was Two Gingers down Paragon Arcade, which he sold to his business partner, before establishing Stables Kitchen at Burton Constable Hall and KINGS in Hull’s old town.

Mayo is still a Director of Stables Kitchen and KINGS, but on a day-to-day basis, he has returned to his flying roots with Canopy Drones.

Areas of their expertise include: aerial surveys; asset management and maintenance; construction and thermal imaging and surveying.

Canopy Drones has been incredibly fortunate to work with the Flood Innovation Centre and SparkFund at Hull University; who have supported their purchase of a DJI M300 drone. This equipment is sector leading and can have LiDAR, inspection cameras, or thermal cameras as payloads.

Mayo is passionate about sustainability and supporting the environment with his work. In his spare time he volunteers for CatZero and enjoys sailing.
