Adrian Smith

Adrian is a local businessman, who grew up in the Avenues of Hull. His favourite saying is “don’t judge a book by its cover”, and if you have seen him you will understand why! Told by his headmaster when he left junior school that he would probably never amount to anything.

Educated at Sydney Smith High School, and finding a flair for mathematics and Technical drawing. Left school at 18 to work within the Valuation Office of the Inland Revenue. Surveyed properties from small shops to multi-million chemical works in Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. After 25 years within the structured environment of a Government Department, resigned in 2000, on the basis of, “if you don’t do it now, you never will”.

Since 2000, worked directly for local and national companies advising on business rate liability. Saving businesses millions of pounds since turning from game keeper to poacher. Advising on clients’ portfolios with individual rateable values in excess of £750,000. Adrian provides professional advice to the business community on all aspect of Business Rate liability with the objective of keeping those costs to a minimum. Adrian is an Associate Member of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and a member of the Rating Surveyors Association.

Adrian enjoys motorcycling, loud rock music and pool, all of which he mastered during his final year at school!
